This is not your typical postcard picture. So why show it?
Two years in the making, and after much community consultation and liaison SOS Health has identified a real need for a full-time independent physiotherapy service to assist in ‘closing the gap’ in health outcomes for the indigenous community on Palm Island. Supported by the Palm Island Aboriginal Shire Council, a full time physiotherapy practice will soon become a reality. The locals are thrilled at the possibilities and the long term benefits this service could provide for their children, aged, disabled, sports clubs and the community as a whole.
Space has been allocated for our use in the old Sandy Boyd Hostel building. As they say “a picture is worth a thousand words” and this one shows just how much ‘TLC” is required to bring it up to scratch. SOS Health is up to the challenge of lovingly renovating the space to create a warm and inviting environment for the clients who will pass through these doors. We will be renovating the facilities over the coming weeks, and preparing it for fitout with the view of opening our probono physiotherapy practice in early 2014.
In the meantime, the search is on for a committed and passionate physiotherapist who is willing to live and work and become part of the Palm Island community. If you or someone you know is interested in this unique opportunity and the chance to make a real difference in the lives of the Palm Island people, please contact us for more information: email@example.com.
