The first physiotherapy practice in an indigenous community in Australia was launched today by the SOS Health Foundation.
SOS Health Services Palm Island is a full time health practice offering physiotherapy and related services and is a welcome addition to services already available on the Island.
A fantastic turnout to the event from all areas of the Palm Island community was a testament to the much needed facility. The proceedings were opened by Allan Palm Island and speeches were given by the Mayor Alfred Lacey, SOS Health Foundation Executive Chairman, Jason Smith, and Manager, Lynda Cunningham. The team welcomed local Patricia Morgan to the SOS Health team as the Administration Assistant /Trainee Allied Health Assistant and Jane Linton, full time physiotherapist.
SOS Health Foundation has been bringing volunteer physiotherapy teams to Palm Island for the past three years and the plan to set up a permanent physiotherapy practice birthed over a year ago. With much planning, preparation, hard work and support from the Palm Island Shire Council, the dream is now a reality.
SOS Health Services Palm Island offers physiotherapy and related services to all in the community.
